Disabled Student Unit

Thanks to collaborations of IKU ArClub (Alumni Relations) and IKU Awareness Club, an event was held on Wednesday, May 11, within the scope of 10-16 May Disability Awareness Week. Disability researcher from Erişilebilir Her Şey platform Ilgın Aydınoğlu and Kemal Koçak who is lecturer and  specialist psychologist and our 2013 alumni from deparment of Psychology had attended as speakers. Event took about two and half hours.

Awareness talk titled "I Succeeded" was held on Monday, March 7, 2022, within the scope of "March 8 International Women's Day", in cooperation with IKU Awareness Club and 118-T Sarıyer Leo Club. Lawyer Tuba Turan, who participated in the event as a speaker; she emphasized how she chose her profession, her acceptance to her close circle and the importance of collective work with her own life story. Hatice Nur Uzgenç shared the founding of GÜÇKADER with her family and working life.

Istanbul Kültür University (IKU) Young Office participated in the "World Volunteers Day" event organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports at Ataköy International Youth Center as part of "December 3 World Disabled Awareness Day" and "December 5 World Volunteering Day".

Ömür Kınay Alkan, one of our academics of the Department of Communication and Design & one of the members of the board of the Disabled Students Unit, was a speaker with Prof. Dr. Haluk Eyidoğan from ITU Geophysics Engineering and Environmental Engineer Cevahir Efe Akçelik from TMMOB Istanbul Provincial Coordination Board at the panel organized by the Chamber of Geophysical Engineers (JFMO) Istanbul Branch on Tuesday, August 17, 2021, at 18:30.

In order to draw attention to the upcoming Great Istanbul Earthquake and to commemorate August 17th 1999, a video was prepared by the Governor of Istanbul Ali Yerlikaya and the words of Ömür Kınay Alkan, one of our academics of the Department of Communication and Design & one of the members of the board of the Disabled Students Unit.

The video whose shootings are completed at the Governorship of Istanbul is shared from the Governorship and Ali Yerlikaya’s social media accounts.

Ömür Kınay, one of the members of the Executive Board of the “Disabled Student Uni”t, who is the event speaker under the title of “Those Who Create Their Own Opportunity in the Traditional 5 Expert 5 Advice” project organized by Etiler Rotaract Club every year, and one of our lecturers from the Department of Communication and Design, was openly invited by the Rotaract 2420 Regional Representation to another meeting.

The Overcoming Obstacles with Education Seminar, organized by the İstanbul Kültür University Faculty of Education on the occasion of the International Week of Persons with Disabilities, took place on Monday, December 4th at the Onder Oztunali Conference Hall. Prof. Dr.

The "There Are No Obstacles for Success" event was organized by the İKÜ PDR Club and the İKÜ Department of Education Sciences.

The "Attainable and Accessible Universities Seminars" event, organized by the General Directorate of Services for Persons with Disabilities and the Elderly under the Ministry of Family and Social Policy in a bid to convey the importance of accessibility for people with disabilities to universities, was hosted by İstanbul University at the IU Congress and Culture Centre on November 7, 2017.
