On September 16, 2025, Bakırköy Municipality organized the “Accessible Life Workshop” with the aim of identifying shortcomings regarding individuals with disabilities in the district and developing solutions to remove barriers. The workshop addressed the issues under five thematic areas. Bakırköy Mayor Assoc. Prof. Ayşegül Ovalıoğlu reiterated the goal of creating an “Accessible and Barrier-Free Bakırköy.” Upon the invitation sent to our University, which also has campuses in the district, our Board Member of the Disabled Student Unit Assist. Prof. Ömür Kınay Alkan and Head of the Directorate of Corporate Communication Nilgün Eryeşil attended the workshop.

Sessions were held across five tables with the participation of academics, NGO representatives, athletes, and local administrators. The discussions covered the themes of “Employment and Work-Life", “Participation in Social Life and Community Relations”, “Health and Rehabilitation”, Education, Culture, and Sports”, and “Local Government and Legal Rights.” Participants developed proposals to ensure that individuals with disabilities can participate more actively in social life and advocate for their rights more effectively.
