The primary goal of the Unit for Students with Disabilities is to support persons with disabilities by ensuring equal opportunities in education. Since isolating and discriminating against persons with disabilities is absolutely unacceptable, the needs of our university’s students with disabilities in academic, administrative, physical, psychological, accommodation, and social fields are determined and relevant rearrangements are made. The active and effective participation of these persons is essential. A person with disabilities may feel as a part of the whole and equal to everyone else only through the full participation; therefore, this participation should be complete. 

We, the İKÜ Unit for Students with Disabilities, do not organize our activities strictly within the university because alongside persons with disabilities who receive education at our university, there are approximately 5 million persons with disabilities in Turkey according to TurkStat data for the year 2011. In other words, 6.6 percent of Turkey's population hs disabilities. This rate exponentially increases when their families, friends, and relatives who share this life with them are taken into account. Bearing this fact in mind, our Unit for Students with Disabilities aims to create awareness through social enlightenment and consciousness beginning from our own campus and to render service with a view of pointing out the problems and creating solutions of them.

We believe that creating a society that is sensitive to persons with disabilities is our permanent duty. In spite of İstanbul Kültür University's support, our students with disabilities will always experience life outside of our university. Hence, our objective is to design projects and organize activities which will prepare persons with disabilities for society and to raise awareness among society and maintain our innovation creating initiatives by adopting our academic vision; our objective is to create an obstacle-free life in every area.
